Department of Physiology

The Department of Physiology plays a foundational role in medical training by bridging basic science and clinical application. We explore the functional mechanisms of the human body through advanced laboratories, immersive learning experiences, and active research.

The Department of Physiology is strategically positioned in a prime area of the college. We handle undergraduate teaching across haematology, clinical, human, amphibian, and mammalian perspectives. We adapt to newer and novel teaching-learning methodologies as per NMC and CBME norms, offering diverse immersive learning experiences to our students.

Department

A Foundational Department Bridging Basic Science And Clinical Application.

Physiology at AVMCH combines robust academic training with practical, immersive laboratories — supported by advanced diagnostic testing, virtual simulations, and an active medical education unit (MEU).

The Department of Physiology is equipped with infrastructure like lecture complexes and laboratories constructed as per NMC recommendations. Our haematology, amphibian, clinical, and mammalian laboratories can accommodate 80-100 students each. We maintain Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and promote small group interactions using well-furnished audio-visual aids. We actively participate in Skill Labs and Medical Education Unit (MEU) by training 1st-year MBBS students using Manikins for clinical examinations.

Our faculty, who graduated from renowned institutions like JIPMER, MAMC, AFMC, and MAHER, are actively involved in basic sciences classes for all postgraduates of the institute. The faculty regularly organize Continuing Medical Education programs (CMEs), publish national and international papers, and are trained Senior Instructors in conducting BLS, ACLS, and JeevaRaksha ECLS Programmes.

Our research laboratory pursues neurophysiology-related studies including Nerve Conduction Studies, Brainstem Auditory Evoked Responses, Visual Evoked Potentials, H and F reflex studies, and Cardiovascular Autonomic Studies.

We are committed to shaping competent physiologists and cultivating thoughtful, rational, and compassionate medical professionals who embody both knowledge and empathy in their practice.
