The Department of Ophthalmology at AVMCH provides comprehensive eye care services, from advanced surgical interventions like Phacoemulsification to community blindness prevention programs and rigorous academic training.
"A leading academic and clinical unit serving patients across Puducherry and Tamil Nadu."
Ophthalmology at AVMCH integrates medical, surgical, and optical care to treat diseases of the eye and visual system. Our daily operations include high-volume outpatient clinics, specialized investigations like perimetry and OCT, and advanced surgical procedures in dedicated operation theatres. We are committed to early detection of conditions like glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy to prevent avoidable blindness.
Postgraduate training (MS Ophthalmology) focuses on developing advanced clinical and surgical competencies. Residents participate in daily case presentations, journal clubs, and supervised surgical training in the OT. They are actively involved in thesis research and participate in interdepartmental academic meetings and national conferences.
The department functions through specialized clinics including Glaucoma, Retina, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Cornea, and Oculoplasty. We conduct elective surgeries like Phacoemulsification with IOL implantation, DCR, and squint surgeries. Our 'time-in, time-out' approach ensures efficient patient flow across registration, refraction, clinical examination, and procedures.
