Comprehensive care for kidney disease across all age groups, adult and paediatric — from early detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease through to advanced renal replacement therapy.
"A leading academic and clinical unit serving patients across Puducherry and Tamil Nadu."
The Department of Nephrology provides comprehensive care for patients with kidney diseases across all age groups, including both adult and paediatric populations. It is committed to evidence-based, patient-centred renal care focusing on early diagnosis, effective treatment and long-term management. The department manages acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, electrolyte disorders and hypertension related to kidney disease, with special emphasis on patients requiring renal replacement therapy, particularly the critically ill.
Alongside clinical care, the department teaches and trains undergraduate, postgraduate and paramedical students. It participates in academic conferences, nephrology workshops and multicentric research collaborations, and publishes in peer-reviewed national and international journals.
Nephrology services include advanced dialysis therapies — haemodialysis, sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED) and continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) — as well as peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). Key procedures include native kidney biopsy, permcath insertion and percutaneous CAPD catheter placement, supported by multidisciplinary collaboration with critical care and other specialities.
