A Clinical Department Built Around The Patient.

General Surgery at AVMCH combines comprehensive surgical services with rigorous academic training — supported by modern operation theatres, well-equipped ICUs, and advanced diagnostic facilities.

The Department of General Surgery plays a key role in delivering patient-centered healthcare while training undergraduate and postgraduate students in surgical sciences. Cases include gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, colorectal, breast, and thyroid surgery, alongside trauma care and minimally invasive laparoscopic procedures — all delivered under strict aseptic and safety protocols.

Experienced faculty work with senior and junior residents and a dedicated nursing team to ensure high standards of care. Regular seminars, journal clubs, case discussions, morbidity & mortality meetings, and clinical audits keep learning and improvement continuous. Special emphasis is placed on minimally invasive surgery and newer surgical techniques to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

The department is actively involved in research and community health programs — from breast-cancer screening camps to regional surgical conferences — contributing to medical science and raising public health awareness across Puducherry.

Clinical service, resident training and outcomes research run in parallel across OPD, IPD, OT and emergency workflows, with continuous quality review through M&M and audit culture.
