Department
Perioperative Care, From Ether To Algorithms.
A core clinical discipline dedicated to safe anaesthesia, critical care and pain medicine across every surgical specialty of AVMCH & Hospital.
Anaesthesiology at AVMCH is a rapidly evolving discipline combining pre-anaesthetic assessment, intra-operative monitoring, ultrasound-guided regional blocks, labour analgesia and post-operative critical care. The department services general surgery, orthopaedics, spine surgery, neurosurgery, ENT, urology, ophthalmology, plastic surgery and super-specialties including NORA for cath lab, CT, MRI and bronchoscopy suites.
Round-the-clock emergency coverage, CODE BLUE leadership, ultrasound-guided central venous access, difficult airway algorithms and ERAS pathways underline a culture of patient safety. The academic programme runs on simulation manikins, an Anaesthesia Museum, a 130-title departmental library and an e-portfolio.
PG teaching every afternoon. A Scientific Forum that rehearses poster talk and podium confidence. And a museum that traces anaesthesia from ether to artificial intelligence.
The department integrates clinical service and training across OTs, ICU, labour analgesia and NORA, with simulation-based crisis training, digital learning systems and research-active perioperative pathways.
