Care for the Nervous System
Neuro Medicine is one of the super speciality services at AVMC & Hospital, working alongside the Department of General Medicine, which runs a dedicated neurology special clinic every day of the week. Medications at these special clinics are provided free of cost.
Neurological emergencies are managed through the hospital's round-the-clock Emergency Department, where a “brain attack” pathway provides immediate CT access so that thrombolysis can be started without delay. Care is coordinated with critical care, radiology and the clinical physiology laboratory.

Neurology Special Clinic
Conducted every day of the week by the Department of General Medicine, alongside clinics for headache, hypertension, rheumatology and diabetes mellitus. Medications are offered free of cost to patients attending these clinics.
Emergency Neurological Care
The Emergency Department operates 24x7 with protocol-driven pathways for stroke, status epilepticus, subarachnoid haemorrhage recognition and raised intracranial pressure management.
Inpatient & Critical Care
Admitted patients are managed with support from the medical intensive care and high dependency units, with emergency physicians transitioning patients into specialised critical care.
Paediatric Neurology
A paediatric neurology clinic is conducted on Fridays by the Department of Paediatrics as part of its weekly speciality clinic schedule.

Neurophysiology and imaging investigations available on campus
Nerve Conduction Studies (NCS)
Performed in the Centre for Clinical Physiology for lower motor neuropathies and diabetic neuropathies, supporting both patient care and research.
Evoked Potentials
Brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAER) and visual evoked potentials (VEP) recorded in the neurophysiology laboratory.
Reflex & Reaction Studies
H and F reflex studies together with auditory and visual reaction time studies for the assessment of nerve and cognitive function.
MRI, CT & Digital Imaging
Supported by the Department of Radiology with a 1.5 Tesla MRI unit, computed tomography and digital radiography, managed through a DICOM-compliant PACS.
