VIROLOGY - MOLECULAR
DIAGNOSTICS LABORATORY
Virology – Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory was established in the month of September, 2020, as a wing of department of Microbiology in Aarupadai Veedu Medical College premises. The lab has equipment and expertise to perform and report molecular identification of human viral diseases. This facility provide disease diagnostic service to AVMCH (along with central clinical lab) and PHC, Kirumambakkam, samples with special reference to SARS-CoV-2 Viral RNA detection as a frontline service in this pandemic situation of Global importance.
For the scope of HCV detection, this laboratory was accredited by NABL as per ISO 15189: 2012. The laboratory shall undertake to carry out its testing activities in such a way as to meet the requirement of ISO 15189:2012, NABL specific criteria, other relevant requirements of NABL and the regulatory authorities, as applicable at all times. It is accredited under category of Small Laboratories (51 – 100 patients/ day/location).
Virology lab follows the test methods mentioned in the current National or International standards and as stipulated by regulatory bodies. The laboratory is participating satisfactorily in the Proficiency Testing program/EQAS conducted by APLAC or NABL any other national or international accredited agencies like ICMR, NIV and WHO. The laboratory is running only one location in the city with legal identity.
