Foundation Course for MBBS Students-2022

Foundation Course started from 4th April. The course was planned according to NMC guidelines. It was attended by 130 (87%) students which increased to 147 in 3 days

A Foundation Course committee was formed by Dean, Dr. P.F Kotur for planning and smooth conduct of the foundation course according to NMC guidelines. The goal of the Foundation Course is to prepare a student to study medicine effectively. Foundation Course committee members were Dr. Manju. M, HOD Biochemistry, as faculty coordinator, Dr. B.R Asokan, HOD Pharmacology as MEU coordinator and one faculty from each first-year department, Dr. M. Gopinath, Associate professor Dept of Physiology, Dr. Sudagar, Associate professor Dept of Anatomy and Dr. Vignesh, Assistant professor dept of CM. The team was mentored by Dr. V.N. Mahalakshmi, Dean HPE.  As per the NMC guidelines, the Foundation course schedule was planned for 1 week (4th to 9th April 2022 9 am to 4 pm and from 11th to 13th April 2 to 4 pm. The schedule was prepared by the committee taking advise from Dean HPE, Dr. V.N Mahalakshmi.

The objectives of the foundation course are to: a. Orient the student to: The medical profession and the physician’s role in society, The MBBS programme (7 hours), medical ethics, attitudes and professionalism (2 hours), and examination b. Enable the student to acquire enhanced skills in: i) Language, (4 hours) ii) Interpersonal relationships,(1 hour) iii) Communication (3 hours)_iv) Learning including self‐directed learning,(1 hour) v) Time management(2 hours), vi) Stress management,(1 hour) vii) Use of information technology(1 hour) viii)  professional development ( 5 hours)  BLS( 1 hour)
