Facilities for Teaching & Learning

At the department of ENT AVMC, we follow the latest competency-based medical education for all postgraduate and undergraduate students. Various modalities for improving the skills and efficiency of learning and teaching, like a dedicated skill lab for training the students with a mannequin for various examination and procedure skills. A demonstration room that has audio-visual equipment for teaching makes learning easier. Students are also housed in OPD cubicles, procedure rooms and operation theatres during their clinical posting in small batches to get exposed and observe various procedures and eventually gain knowledge. A dedicated temporal lab unit is available for dissection where students get hands-on exposure to bones (wet and dry) to enhance their surgical experience. Students have a dedicated skill training session every week, where they are taught the necessary skills required during their clinical posting.

STUDENT OUTCOME:

Each postgraduate and undergraduate student is trained in such a way that they are competent to deal with ENT cases at their respective levels. All the postgraduate students who have passed out from AVMC have been selected for super specializations, fellowships, and have fellowship clinical practices worldwide.

PATIENT CARE:

Overview

The department of ENT offers diagnostic and therapeutic outdoor, indoor, operative, rehabilitative and emergency services in the hospital, both independently and in close collaboration with other specialities.

A unique feature in patients care (eg. daycare surgery, zero-delay casualty)

  • Most of our surgeries in ear, nose and throat are daycare in nature but as patients often come from far off places and undergo general anesthesia they usually remain indoors for a minimum of 2 to 3 days following their procedures. Endoscopies are carried out as minor daycare procedures under local anesthesia.

Clinical problems treated (eg. Acne, DM infertility, etc.)

  • All kinds of diseases in the ear, nose, throat and head and neck are treated in our department. Those requiring complex care are sometimes referred to quaternary hospitals in Chennai or Jipmer, Puducherry.
