Facilities for Teaching & Learning
Novel teaching methods like problem-based learning and role-plays that make learning more interesting are routinely being conducted. EMOC training (Emergency Obstetric Care) and teaching are scheduled with drills in sequence by a team of students for management of emergencies like PPH, eclampsia and shoulder dystocia. Various other methods of teaching and learning are facilitated with regular journal clubs and EBM (Evidence-Based medicine) schedules for PGs. E-Learning with Google groups and online learning using Zoom /Google Meet and Cisco Webex platform are conducted regularly. Video sessions of surgeries are presented by faculties and the procedures are explained. Panel Discussions, Quiz, capsule talk, interdepartmental presentation with Anaesthesia, Paediatrics, Radiology and Pathology are carried out. Students are encouraged to present papers in conferences and participate in quiz programmes, organized by the Pondicherry OG society and Tamil Nadu OG society under FOGSI, and CMEs and conferences.
Skill Labs are utilized for effective teaching and learning methods.
PATIENT CARE
Patient care services at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology are provided by an experienced and dedicated team of consultants for all obstetrics and gynaecology conditions. The obstetrics and gynaecology outpatient department have colposcopy and cryotherapy facilities along with an ultrasound facility. We have a special infertility clinic with an Andrology lab and facilities for semen processing and intrauterine insemination. There is a USG and CTG machine in the OPD to cater to all high-risk pregnancies. There are well-equipped modern operation theatres to perform various gynaecological surgeries including a fully functioning hysteron-laparoscopy unit for diagnostic and operative procedures. There are 24×7 blood banks and lab facilities available.

Overview:
The department of OBG plays a major role in the patient care activities of AVMC. We have a well-equipped OPD ward, Antenatal, Gyn, Postnatal ward, Labour theatre, ICU and OT services, High-risk dependency unit, and Eclampsia Room to cater to routine and high-risk obstetric cases and gynaecology cases with infertility services.
The unique feature in Patient Care:
Department provides Annai Anna Poorni scheme to antenatal mothers where Rs. 7500/- is given after delivery and Rs. 2500 given at the time of 1st immunization of baby at 6 weeks. A full-fledged OT Theater with modern facilities to perform all types of OBS and GYN surgeries [both elective and emergencies]is also available.
Yoga therapy for antenatal mothers in collaboration with the yoga department of AVMC provides relief of stress and improves the well-being of patients.

Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology caters to a wide variety of obstetrics and gynaecology procedures which includes routine and complex cases including high-risk obstetrics, gynaecology and infertility with ART services.
OPD services:
OPD services are available Monday to Saturday in A Block from 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.

Emergency Services:
Department has an emergency casualty service that caters to all obstetrics and gynaecology emergencies giving prompt and appropriate care to patients.
Insurance schemes:
Our department has tie-ups with all major insurance companies and third-party administrators in both Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry Government as well as in the private sector, where patients can get cashless treatment, get their bills paid and reimbursed by the insurance companies.
