Student support Activities
Curricular:

The programmes run by the department of Community Medicine are as follows:

  • Undergraduate Medical Training MBBS – 5 ½ years 
  • Postgraduation in Community Medicine (MD)- 3 years: Intake of 4 MD seats per year Since 2020.
  • Master of Public Health (MPH): 2 years 
  • Faculty of Allied Health Sciences (Trauma Care)

Co-Curricular:

The Department of Community Medicine conducts value-added programme in the field of epidemiology for II MBBS students. Students are encouraged to participate in community medicine quiz competitions, Poster and oral presentations in conferences etc.

Extra-curricular:

The students are encouraged to participate in awareness rallies and outreach activities conducted by AVMC&H and external agencies like governmental and non-governmental organizations.

Research:

Research activities are regularly conducted in the department of community medicine.  Review meetings are held to assess the progress of various research projects. ICMR projects by students and faculties are regularly done.  Statistical services are offered to the research studies conducted by undergraduates and postgraduates as well as the medical, dental, nursing, and allied health sciences faculty.

Well-being:

The faculty of the department offer counselling services for the students who are in need and also help them out in their academics. Low performers are identified and regularly counselled to excel in their academics.

EXTENSION ACTIVITIES:

Aarupadai  Veedu Medical College and Hospital in association with Department of Community Medicine  provides free medical care to the rural and urban population through extension activities like conducting medical camps. The main objective is to improve the health of the communities in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. Over the past 20 years we have conducted more than 8000 medical camps in collaboration with local village leaders, government and NGOs.

OUTREACH ACTIVITIES:

The Department of Community Medicine Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospital conducts awareness programmes for various communicable and non-communicable diseases in the field practice areas of our urban and rural health centres in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.
