Department Of
Anatomy
Curricular activities
The aim of the Anatomy department is to impart teaching and training programs in human anatomy to undergraduate, postgraduate medical & paramedical students. The teaching is aimed at equipping students with knowledge for their clinical studies, enabling them to become competent and skillful doctors in their future endeavors. The anatomy teaching in the department is a combination of didactic lectures, dissection and demonstration of cadavers, microscopic study of individual organs and teacher-student interactions in the form of seminars and symposia for which students are divided into groups. Lectures are made lively with the use of multimedia aids and devices. Students are encouraged to actively participate in the teaching and learning process. Periodic evaluation is conducted so as to stimulate academic improvement.
Co-curricular activities
- Regular Quiz programs are conducted at the end of each topic/region in Anatomy in such a way to help them to attempt their MCQ in University Examination and arouse interest in them to prepare for their NEET PG examination.
- They are also encouraged to participate in the Quiz competitions organized by various other institutions.
- Students are guided to participate in the paper presentation (oral / poster) in various Conferences held in other institutions.
- Students are encouraged to participate in Elsevier MCQ competitions every year.
- Medal exams are conducted by the department to initiate an interest among the students to improve their knowledge in the subjects.
Research
Students are motivated to participate actively in STS – ICMR projects & research activities in the department every year.

Outreach Activities:
Body Donation Programs
The Department of Anatomy, AarupadaiVeedu Medical College & Hospital is regularly conducting Body Donation Programs to facilitate the interested members of the public to unconditionally donate their body for use in teaching, training, scientific studies and research.
Objectives :
- To make the public aware and understand the uses of body donation
- To clear the doubts of the volunteer donor and their family in order to make the decision to go ahead with the donation.
- To motivate the general population to donate their bodies to serve the purpose of medical education and scientific research.
Intended outcomes:
- Useful for understanding human body and for advancing science
- Helps medical students learn relations of human anatomic structures and development of psychomotor skills by dissection
- Each cadaver is like a new source of knowledge as many variations can be identified which could help the clinicians.
- These donations help the surgeons to experiment with innovative surgical skills and procedures in the form of cadaver labs, workshops, thus giving them an opportunity to explore in a realistic manner.
- Another innovation evolved are the cadaver banks like brain banks, skin and vessel bank which are collections of these samples that can be used later for conducting molecular research and cadaver grafting.
- With the rising number of medical colleges and scarcity of cadavers Voluntary Body Donation is definitely a saviour and a ray of hope for the betterment of medical science.
Patient Care:
Karyotyping
- Cytogenetic lab was started in 2018 and the department is actively involved in patient care services in processing karyotyping for the past 3 years.
- Karyotyping is done on a regular basis upon referral from departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology & Pediatrics
- The karyotyping unit is well equipped and stabilized for studies of DNA damage using comet assay.
Embalming
- Embalming is regularly done for deceased persons before transportation or for the delayed funeral.
