CME on ” Close the Care Gap” World Head and Neck Cancer Day

The “Close the Care Gap” CME program, held on World Head and Neck Cancer Day 2024, was a landmark event organized by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology at AVMCH. This comprehensive gathering brought together healthcare professionals, researchers, and students dedicated to enhancing the care of head and neck cancer patients.

The day started with a prayer song, setting a respectful tone for the proceedings. Dr. Nishanth Savery delivered the keynote address, highlighting the importance of the theme “Closing the Care Gap.” Dr. Atul Bage, HOD of ENT, then introduced the day’s sessions, which focused on the latest advancements in head and neck oncology.

Notable sessions included:

  • Dr. Suresh’s Presentation: An in-depth look at managing laryngeal cancer, including new surgical techniques and therapies, followed by an interactive Q&A.
  • Panel Discussion: After Dr. Anbarasi’s case presentation on laryngeal carcinoma, a panel moderated by Prof. Karthikeyan and featuring Dr. Sitananda Kumar, Dr. Suresh, Prof. V. Prabhu, and Dr. Kalaiyarsi Raja explored multidisciplinary care and technological advancements in oncology.
  • E-Poster Competition: Postgraduate students from various institutions showcased cutting-edge research. JIPMER earned first place, PIMS second, and MGMC third.
  • Dr. Vignesh Muruganandam’s Segment: Focused on the management of thyroid masses through a detailed case study, complemented by a panel discussion.
  • Dr. Sitananda Kumar’s Presentation: Provided a postgraduate perspective on thyroid conditions, emphasizing early detection and personalized treatment.

Senior faculty, including Dr. Rakesh Sehgal, Dean of AVMCH, and Dr. Lakshmi Jatiya, VP of Student Affairs, also spoke, reflecting their commitment to academic and professional growth.

The event concluded with the e-poster competition awards and a vote of thanks from Dr. T.C. Vikram, who acknowledged the contributions of all involved. The day wrapped up with the national anthem.
