CAMR-2024: 2nd International Conference on Combating Antimicrobial Resistance

The Department of Microbiology at Aarupadai Veedu Medical College & Hospital, Vinayaka Missions Research Foundation, hosted the CAMR 2024, the 2nd International Conference on Combating Antimicrobial Resistance. Held at Aanandha Inn Convention Centre on January 5th and 6th, 2024, under the auspices of the Academy of Clinical Microbiologists, the event drew delegates from leading institutions across India. Distinguished speakers from diverse fields shared their expertise on the latest trends in Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and discussed strategies to tackle this issue. The primary aim of the conference was to unite professionals and stakeholders from various fields to examine the existing opportunities and challenges in addressing antimicrobial resistance. Sponsored by CSIR and accredited with four credit hours by TNMC, the conference successfully achieved its objective. The conference showcased 14 distinguished speakers, among them three international speakers hailing from New Zealand and the USA. Over 300 attendees, comprising faculty members, PhD scholars, postgraduates, and undergraduates, actively took part in the event.

The opening ceremony on the conference’s first day was honored by the presence of our patrons, Dr. A.S. Ganesan, Chancellor of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation, and Mr. Suresh Samuel, Member of the Board of Management at VMRF. The chief guest for the occasion was Prof. D.M. Thappa, Dean of Research at JIPMER. Other distinguished individuals on the dais included Dr. Mani Srinivasan, an Infectious Disease consultant from the USA; Dr. Manju Rahi, Scientist-‘G’ and Director at ICMR-VCRC; Dr. Kavitha Raja, President of ACM and Professor Senior Grade & Head of Microbiology at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute of Medical Sciences and Technology, Trivandrum; Dr. Rakesh Sehgal, Dean of AVMC&H; Dr. R. Latha, VP Academics & Professor of Microbiology at AVMC&H and Dr. K. Kavitha, Professor and Head of the Department of Microbiology.

The event commenced with Dr. R. Latha, the organizing chairman of the conference, delivering the welcome address. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and an invocation song. Dr. Rakesh Sehgal, the Dean, provided an overview of the conference’s scope. The presidential address was then delivered by Dr. A.S. Ganesan, Chancellor of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation, along with Mr. Suresh Samuel, Member of the Board of Management at VMRF. The program’s chief guest, Prof. D. M. Thappa, Dean of Research at JIPMER, delivered the inaugural address. The guests of honor, Dr. Mani Srinivasan, ID consultant from the USA, and Dr. Manju Rahi, Scientist-‘G’ and Director at ICMR – Vector Control Research Centre, Puducherry, also shared their insights with the audience. Additionally, the event featured the release of the Calendar of events, South Asian Journal of Health Sciences (SAJHS), and CAMR 2024 souvenir, carried out by Dr. A.S. Ganesan, Chancellor of Vinayaka Mission’s Research Foundation, and Mr. Suresh Samuel, Member of the Board of Management at VMRF. The program wrapped up with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Kavitha K, the organizing secretary of the conference.
