RESEARCH DAY – 2022


The third annual research day celebration at Aarupadai Veedu Medical College and Hospital, Puducherry was celebrated from 01.03.22 to 03.03.22. Day 1 program started with the prayer song. Under the theme “Preparing a scholarly work”, Dr. K.F Kotur, Dean AVMC, spoke on the topic “Research Focus in Academic Medical Centers” which focussed on what, why, and how of research in medical colleges followed by Dr. Pankaj B Shah, Professor & Head, Department of Community Medicine, SRMC, spoke on the topic “Clinical elements in writing a research proposal. He briefed about the steps in writing a good research proposal that centered on purpose, components, timeline, and budgeting. Theme 2 focussed on preparing a publication that started with the topic “what makes a great paper?” by Dr. N.Ananthakrishnan, Emeritus Professor of Surgery and Medical Education, SBV. He highlighted the case reports, short communications, review articles, and meta-analysis followed by a speech on the topic “ How to structure your paper- from Title to Conclusion” by Dr. Vishnu Bhat, Director of Medical Research, AVMC. He spoke about the rules of good scientific writing and structuring. In continuation, Dr. Nishad Plakkal, Associate Professor, Department of Neonatology, JIPMER, discussed “Designing clear and informative figures and tables” where he briefed about the ways to present the data using figures and tables. The next session was a hand on session conducted by Dr. Vishnu Bhat, Dr. N.Ananthakrishnan, and Dr. Nishad Plakkal where they walked through unpublished manuscripts which focussed on the need for publication, response to reviewer’s comments, etc. The final talk of day 1 was given by Dr. V.N Mahalakshmi on the topic “ Communicating your research findings on stage” where she briefed about the tips and tricks of oral presentation. The first day wrapped up with the questionnaire session where the postgraduates helped themselves in getting their doubts cleared. Totally 91 postgraduates participated in the workshop session.

The second day of the research day celebration started with an oral presentation by faculties. Dr. Anish, Professor, Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Jipmer and Dr. Saurabh Srivastava, Professor, Dept of Community Medicine, Sathya Sai medical college was the external judges while Dr. Kalsad, Professor, Dept of General Medicine, AVMC was the internal judge. A total of 7 faculties presented their original research paper. The faculty presentation was followed by Ph.D. oral presentation. A total of 13 Ph.D.’s presented their research work. There was one external candidate from Meenakshi College of Arts and Science, Chennai. The research works ranged from microbiology, genetic studies, diet and diabetes, protein biomarker studies, and bioinformatic docking studies.  The presentations were judged by external judges Dr. Rajasekar, Asst. Professor, Dept. of Biotechnology, Thiruvallur University, Vellore and Dr. M. Prakash, Professor & Head, Dept. of Microbiology, Sri Krishna College of Arts and Science, Kanchipuram. Dr. Vishnu Bhat B, Director-Medical Research was the internal judge. The Ph.D. oral presentation was followed by the undergraduate oral presentation which was judged by the same judges. The day ended with the post-graduate oral paper presentation. Totally 10 Post Graduate students participated in the oral competition and presented their research papers. Dr. Rajini, Professor & Head, Dept. of Community Medicine, SLIMS, and Dr. K. Ananthi, Professor, Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, IGMC, were judged by external judges for the presentation while the internal judge was  Dr. Ambujam, Dean, VMMC, Karaikal.  

The third and final day of the research day celebration started with the poster presentation by postgraduate students. Totally 30 Post Graduate students participated and presented their posters out of which 3 were external candidates. The competition was judged by Dr. Benjamin, Professor & Head, Dept. of Paediatrics, Saveetha Medical College, and Dr. Rajkumar Patil, Professor, Dept. of Community and Family Medicine and Gynaecology, AIIMS, Bhopal, were judged by external judges for the presentation. Dr. Deepti Shastri, Deputy Dean, HOD, Dept of Anatomy,  VMKVMC, Salem. The final session of the third annual research day ended with a special guest lecture by Professor Siva Prasad S Goudar, Director, WHO Collaborating Centre for Maternal and Perinatal Health Research, Director-Research, KLE University Belgaum on the topic “How to get your Research Funded”. The chief guest also released the AVMC Research day digest-2022. The program finally came to a closure with the announcement of prizes for various oral and poster competitions. Dr. S Vithiavathi, PG Coordinator and HOD, department of general medicine proposed the vote of thanks.
