The new medical interns at AVMC Puducherry underwent a novel procedural skills ‘boot camp’ organised by the Clinical skills lab and Simulation Centre, AVMC, in association with Laerdal Medical. Bootcamp is an accelerated, intensive training program that enables professionals to acquire deep, in-demand skills in new methodologies in a short time. This unique initiative created an enhanced simulation-based mastery learning (SBML) methodology to deliver fourteen procedural skills teaching.
A total of nineteen faculty members and Sixty-one medical trainees attended this 2-day boot camp held at AVMC campus from 17/4/23 to 18/4/23. The novel enhanced SBML pathway entailed online pre-learning resources and videos, a demonstration by resource persons and deliberate practice, and simulation assessment and feedback using SIMCAPTURE, a unique technology-based solution. This boot camp model enabled streamlined, standardised procedural skill teaching to a cohort of junior doctors. Feedback from faculty and students shows that training clinical competencies and increased skill confidence for practice readiness was achieved.
The program was inaugurated by Dr PF Kotur, Dean, AVMC. It was organised by the skills lab team of AVMC – Dr V.N. Mahalakshmi, Dean Health Professions Education, Dr V. Ezhilrajan, HoD Anaesthesia, Dr Rajkumar E, Skills lab coordinator and other faculty members. Laerdal Medical served as the skills training partner in this initiative.
